Vince Malone – HND, connecting people with their community.

October is National Home News Delivery Month, which involves 1,000 retailers who deliver newspapers straight to their customers’ doors every week across the UK.

Home News Delivery is a vital service, a backbone of newspaper sales, enjoyed and depended upon by thousands of readers nationwide, reliant on fantastic delivery partners to ensure that they receive their newspapers or magazines on a daily basis.

Across the UK there are thousands of retailers who offer a home delivery service. As the clocks change and the nights get darker, October is an ideal time to place an order for home delivery as we enter the autumn and winter months. A home delivery order guarantees customers get their newspapers, no matter what the weather, come rain or shine, the news is on the doorstep thanks to newsagents doing the delivery rounds.

Home News Delivery Month is also a chance to shine a light on the committed retailers that provide this outstanding service. Among them is Tenby Stores and Post Office, in the town’s South Parade, which has been run for the past 11 years by Vince Malone and his wife Fiona.

Vince believes the Home News Delivery scheme has huge advantages and said: “We have about 130 people we deliver to and those people want it for different reasons. We’ve got some that have just one or two newspaper drops a week, they like their weekend paper or there’s a magazine or they want the local paper delivered. “Then we have others that have a delivery seven days a week. Some of our customers have deliveries which have been arranged by their sons or daughters, because they want to make sure that their parents have still got a connection with the community. It’s very much a service to the local area. There is a lot of good will and the ability for us to engage with the community. We have drivers that deliver for us and it’s a valuable service.”

He said people enjoy reading papers because it is a way to relax, as he explained: “I think a paper or magazine gives people a bit of me time, they can sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy.” Vince said the Home News Delivery subscription was recently purchased as a gift for an elderly lady. “I had never thought of it in that way but it was a lovely thing to do”, he said. Someone came in asking if they could pay for a six month subscription for an 80 year-old woman they knew, they wanted to do it as a present. “It opened up my eyes, and so it’s definitely an idea for anyone wondering what may make a nice gift and also a great scheme to sign up to anyway.”

Local newsagents up and down the country will be promoting the campaign which runs from October 1 to 31, along with leaflet drops to ensure the spotlight is very much on the scheme, which is now in its third year. The service echoes community spirit among retailers and their customers, so there really is no time like the present to find a newsagent local to you and sign up for the Home News Delivery scheme. Reach titles will be running in paper adverts with very strong offers as an incentive for customers to place their order for Home delivery during October. Participating retailers will all have posters promoting the service to customers.
